Attracting Wildlife Attracting wildlife to your yard or garden need not be complicated or expensive. To attract birds, provide a birdfeeder that is in a safe and secure place out of the reach of predators. A birdbath will attract many birds, as they can get a drink of water and take a bath which is one of their favorite activities. Squirrels, who are delightful and entertaining creatures love corn, peanuts, nuts, and the bird food. In order to keep them out of the bird food you need to provide them with food also. Many places now sell squirrel food which is a mixture of their favorite types of food. You can plant certain flowers to attract butterflies, you can look for “butterfly garden” kits or ask at your local garden shop. Wildlife need a lot of cover to feel safe and secure so plant plenty of trees, bushes and flowers for a more natural setting.
